duvet dressing

Zara black duvet coat, Alexander Wang Prisma tote and Whistles grey suede heels

I think I've said it before, but one of the things I love most about fashion is its ability to totally change your mind. Even a year ago I would have turned my nose up at puffer jackets as the preserve of the super-rich wrapped up in Moncler at ski resorts, or the totally unstylish dressed in Primark. I wouldn't have been seen dead in one. But fashion has turned the connotations of this humble, practical piece of outerwear on its head, and now you can't move for them throughout the high street and designer stores alike.

However, as with any item at the height of fashion where it used to be the opposite, there is a very fine line to tread. Because the unfashionable puffer jackets are still out there in spades. Here are my top 3 tips for getting the right kind of duvet jacket: 1) Avoid any gold zips or buttons. Looks tacky. 2) Likewise a fur hood or a shiny fabric = dangerously near to chav territory. 3) A short, jacket-length is far more flattering and of the moment than a below the hips cut. In fact, just head to your nearest Zara and pick up this bargain beauty of a puffer jacket for a mere £30. Even if it is a flash-in-the-pan trend, I've barely shelled out anything and I am as snug as a bug in a rug. Winner!
