today i'm inspired by... zara august lookbook

This Zara lookbook may be for August, but in my mind these clothes epitomise what September is all about: transitioning from summer into autumn. Granted, with our confusing British summer, most of us have already had a lot of practice at dressing for changeable weather. But these lovely shots give us a masterclass in how to gradually de-summer our wardrobes: move away from bright colours into slightly more subdued shades; swap relaxed denim for stricter tailoring; choose polished accessories to add a slightly smarter edge for autumn. I love the outfit with the black & white skirt (sadly I had to return mine as it didn't fit). But my favourite look is the all-denim outfit with the white coat: as well as being very CĂ©line, it also shows you how to take summery pieces (denim, white, bare legs) and give them an autumnal edge (smart, tailored, minimalist). After all, leaving summer behind doesn't seem so bad if autumn is going to look like this.
