Each season I like Alexander Wang's collections more and more. I think it might be because as I get older, I seem to move further and further away from girly patterns and fussy details, and prefer a cleaner, more urban aesthetic, with emphasis on simple lines and luxe fabrics (especially leather). Alexander Wang offers just this. His clothes are sexy, urban and just a little sporty, cultivating a downtown vibe with a luxe edge. And his S/S'12 collection is no exception (see it all here). Perforation was a strong theme throughout his show, adding a sporty touch to leather and mesh in shades of black, burgundy and sea blue. Luxe velvet also made an appearance on utility-style dresses punctuated with fierce zips, while airy white chiffon added lightness towards the end of the show. That ever-present summer trend, florals, was also in evidence, but on biker-style jumpsuits and paired with black mesh and leather, these flowers were a world away from girly. Meanwhile geometric prints on what looked like ski attire provided a fun interlude, and accessories such as perforated shoes and leather bags slung across the body cemented Wang's unmistakable downtown cool. It's a collection I immediately loved, and I can't wait until it filters down to the high street come spring. Luckily, though, there are some suitable offerings already on sale, so why not snap up one of my Wang-alike picks below to whet your appetite for the Big Apple?
