Yesterday the Chanel Cruise 2012 show took place in sunny southern France, on the eve of the Cannes Film Festival. And whenever there are Chanel clothes being paraded you can guarantee that the most stylish A-listers will be out in force. This event didn't disappoint, with its guest list reading like a who's who of the best dressed celebrities: Clémence Poésy, Alexa Chung, Rachel Bilson and Vanessa Paradis, to name but a few (see all the pictures here). And of course they were all decked head-to-toe in Chanel, making for some stunning ensembles. One of my favourite looks has to be that worn by Poppy Delevingne, a model and upcoming actress who has earned herself a firm spot on my best dressed list over recent months, thanks to her ability to look chic, effortless and perfectly turned-out at all times (see some of her best outfits here). I love the way she's taken the classic tweed bouclé shorts suit and made it young and fresh, teaming it with simple flats to tone down the acres of leg, and adding sexy tousled hair and bright red lips. And this is a formula you can and should copy for yourself. But don't worry if you can't afford the real McCoy: above I've selected some high street substitutes for Poppy's perfect pieces (that ASOS shorts suit is particularly lovely). It just goes to show that classic, timeless clothes needn't be boring; in fact with a little bit of fashion know-how they can be anything but.
