Wow, are there any young designers left that Topshop haven't collaborated with? Christopher Kane, Emma Cook, Ann-Sofie Back, Marios Schwab, Michael Van Der Ham, Ashish, Mark Fast.. the list is endless. And now they've added David Koma to the list, a man known for his beautiful sculptural dresses with eye-catching detailing. It's unfortunate that the first I heard of Koma was when Cheryl Cole ruined one of his dresses on The X Factor, pairing the poor frock with knee-high boots, her horrible hair extensions and a choker necklace. So it's a testament to Koma's talent that he's since managed to rise above the unfortunate Cole association and become one of the hot tickets of LFW. And, given that producing a Topshop collection is pretty much a rite of passage for young designers, it's safe to say he's going from strength to strength. Admittedly I haven't always loved his more out-there designs, but I was pretty much blown away by these five beauties. He's taken the best aspects of his ready-to-wear collections and distilled them into five beautiful, simple masterpieces, revving up the basic little black dress with silver detailing, mesh panels and sensual cutouts. These dresses are timeless, showstopping and very, very sexy. The catch? Not only are the prices a fair step up from Topshop's usual demographic (the dresses are priced between £275 and £350, along with a belt at £100), but only 30 of each dress will be available. So I think it's safe to say I'll be admiring these beauties from a distance. Sigh. Anyway, if you'd like to read all about the collection, you can do so here. And if any of you are lucky enough to be able to afford the dresses, they go on sale on 18th February.
