today i love… the monday wish list

1. Givenchy small Nightingale tote bag / £1,290 at Farfetch
If there's one thing I think it's really worth splashing out on, it's designer bags. I'm a firm believer that the wardrobes that stand the test of time are made up of high street basics pepped up with designer accessories. You can be wearing head to toe H&M but throw in a little Givenchy, Alexander Wang or Phillip Lim arm candy (my favourite bag brands, should you care) and suddenly you look a million dollars. And given the choice between shoes and bags, you'll definitely get more cost per wear value from a bag. That's my philosophy anyway. It's been a while since my last extravagant bag purchase (OK, September's not that long ago...) and I'm yearning for another. The Nightingale tote has been on my radar for years but lately it's been playing on my mind more than ever. The soft squishy leather, the timeless style and the perfect size: it's surely the definition of a classic.

I'm a bit late to the party but I've recently discovered Etsy and I'm obsessed. Not really for clothes or accessories, as I prefer to invest in well-known brands, but for interiors it's perfect. I've spent the last few days browsing all manner of concrete planters and copper candleholders. This beauty (plant included!) is already winging its way towards me and there will definitely be more where that came from.

I'm obsessed with tiny little earrings at the moment and ASOS' sterling silver and gold-plated range is ridiculously good value for money. I love these little half moon beauties.

As a rule I'm not a big fan of dresses, given my aversion to anything girly and my dislike of limiting outfit combination possibilities. But when I see a super simple versatile style like this, which manages to be both minimalist and ungirly, I can't help but be swayed by the comfort and ease. I'd style this simply with white trainers, a crossbody bag and navy leather jacket.

It's almost getting to the time of year when our toes can be freed from black ankle boots and we can whisper the word "sandal" once more. I like the multi-strap detail on this versatile nude style, which would be a great staple work heel in the summer.

I've been looking for a chic passport cover for a while now, but it's difficult to find one that isn't either super cheap and tacky or heinously expensive (it seems to be Cath Kidston or Smythson and nothing in between. Incidentally: same for laptop cases. Can someone plug this gap in the market please?!) Finally though I've laid eyes on this & Other Stories beauty which may be just what I've been searching for.

today i'm wearing...

Topshop white Jamie jeans

Whistles black suede heels

3.1 Phillip Lim 31 hour bag Smoke

Topshop cream knitted cardigan

Couldn't resist picking up this oversized cosy cardigan in the Topshop sale the other day. Maybe it's a sign of getting older but super soft, comfortable knits are always the first thing I gravitate towards on the sale racks. Made it just about work appropriate with a killer bag and no-nonsense heels.

today i'm wearing...

Alexander Wang black Prisma tote

Adidas prime knit Stan Smith trainers

Topshop Unique khaki jacket

Topshop white Jamie jeans

The thing about wearing trainers after years of not wearing trainers is that they suddenly make all your other footwear feel heinously uncomfortable in comparison, so you kind of can't take them off… Especially loving pairing these Stan Smiths with khaki right now.

First up: sorry for the lack of outfit posts lately. Since I moved house recently and now live on my own it's a little harder to find someone to bribe into taking pictures of me. I'm off to buy myself a tripod soon, but in the meantime I promise to be more regular on the updates now that I'm finally done with putting up flatpack furniture and settling in. So back to the clothes…

I really never thought I would see myself wearing trainers, ever. Even though the rest of planet fashion has been enamoured with sport shoes for the past year or so, until now I've resisted. I just never thought I was a trainer person. But it turns out I am. Who knew? These Adidas Stan Smiths were a post-Christmas ASOS sale find and they've barely left my feet since (at weekends, anyway: ain't nobody tearing me away from my heels at work). I love the bright white and the soft mesh finish and above all they're so just darned comfortable. Plus they seem to make any outfit look immediately more nonchalant. I'm still resisting wearing them with skirts (too reminiscent of commuters in boring suits and gym shoes: bleurgh) but with jeans and leather trousers I am sold. Time to go see if there are any flying pigs about…
