today i'm wearing...

ASOS leather midi skirt

Acne Studios grey sweatshirt

Alexander Wang lizard Prisma tote

Acne Studios Beta flock sweatshirt

Zara ponyskin ankle boots

So I caved in and bought these gorgeous ponyskin boots from last week's Monday wish list. Have to say I can't get enough of heeled ankle boots like this: they're pretty much what I live in once no-socks weather is upon us. And you know I'm all about the ponyskin.

You know when you actually love an item of clothing so much that you sometimes just stare at it wistfully hanging in your wardrobe, and look forward to wearing it an unhealthy amount? Yep, that's how I feel about this Whistles coat. I was so happy to be wearing it today. Well, can you blame me? It is undoubtedly a thing of beauty.

today i love… my-wardrobe cashmere collection

my-wardrobe Cashmere

I've probably mentioned it before but I'm a big fan of e-tailer my-wardrobe. They've got the best loyalty scheme going (spend £500 or more in a six month period to qualify for gold membership, giving you 20% off everything), they offer free delivery (take note, Net-a-Porter) and they stock a great variety of brands, from high end stalwarts like Phillip Lim (all of my Lim bags are from there) to lesser known jewellery designers like my absolute favourite Rachel Boston and even my high street go-to Whistles. Now, though, they've gone a step further and introduced their own line. Sensibly they've started small, with a tightly curated selection of cashmere basics. It's high quality but not super expensive (think Whistles price points), and they're even offering 20% off all of it as an introductory incentive. As you'll no doubt know I'm a huge fan of cosy knitwear, cashmere in particular, so I'm pretty much sold. The grey boyfriend jumper with longer back detail is top of my wish list, as are the sumptuous beanies. Find all of my favourites below.

today i'm wearing...

Topshop black Jamie jeans

Zara black leather zip boots

Zara leopard tote bag

& Other Stories cream knitted jumper

I bought this & Other Stories knit back in the summer sales, but it's only just got cold enough to wear it. I am a huge fan of knitwear in general and I knew I had to have this specimen as soon as I saw it in store: deliciously chunky with perfect extra-long sleeves.

today i love… the monday wish list

This is one of those pieces which I feel like my wardrobe has been waiting for. Utterly chic in a very Olivia Palermo kind of way, it will lend polish to any ensemble. I love the colour and I love the length. Of course, it's also utterly impractical, especially at this time of year, when we should be investing in sensible outerwear to see us through the (no doubt) imminent cold snap. So far this is what's been holding me back from clicking it home, but I'm not sure how long my resolve will last.

I've been after a good bobble hat since last winter, and this is the best I've found so far. I love the fact that the bobble looks like a rabbit's tail (albeit a navy rabbit). It's the simple things.

You can never have too many pairs of heeled ankle boots if you ask me, and it's around this time of year when bare legs season is over and open toed shoes have to be retired until next summer (sob). You know I love ponyskin (and any kind of texture really) so these babies are right up my street.

I've got back into earrings in a big way recently. I didn't wear them for ages, and I still don't really  during the day, but I'm quite liking a flashy pair on a night out to add a little extra something. These are brilliant in a slightly ridiculous way.

I'm in the market for a new perfume at the moment, and I really like this one which I picked up a sample of the other day. It's definitely a nighttime scent: deep, velvety and sensuous, as the pink liquid and black glitter bottle suggest.

I never used to be a big fan of skirts but lately I'm finding myself reevaluating my position on them. I'm especially drawn to a slightly unusual silhouette. I'm not sure I'm 100% sold on the colour of this skirt but I adore the front split feature. Maybe if they bring it out in navy…

today i want… alexander wang x h&m grey sweatshirt

9d2faddc7ea0931b86e349a8369bd59a

Alexander Wang x H&M grey sweatshirt / £34.99

I'm sure you'll be aware that H&M's latest designer collaboration, arguably its most anticipated yet, launches on November 6th. Ever since Alexander Wang's nonchalant sports-inspired aesthetic started popping up on off-duty models in the early noughties, he's been the poster boy for a certain kind of cool that few can master. I myself have always been a huge fan of his designs; you'll no doubt have realised how much I love my Prisma tote of his. So I've geared myself up for the inevitable couple of hours of frantic webpage refreshing that come with any of H&M's collabs in order to get my hands on a select few pieces. Top of my wish list has to be this very wearable and reasonably priced sweat. My only hesitation? I can't help but worry that ordinary (read: non-fashion) people may just wonder why I'm wearing a rude word emblazoned across my chest…

today i'm wearing...

Topshop black Jamie jeans

Alexander Wang lizard Prisma tote

Topshop Unique bomber jacket

ASOS pearl earrings

This jacket is from Topshop Unique's A/W'12 collection (in my mind their best to date). It's one of those items which I fell inexorably in love with and made up my mind that nothing could be right with the world until I owned it. Of course, this was after it had sold out, so I spent an agonising couple of weeks refreshing the Topshop landing page hundreds of times a day. I had all but given up on owning the beauty when one day it was miraculously restocked. I clicked it home immediately and have been obsessed with it ever since. Two years later, while it may not be as on trend anymore and I don't clamour to wear it in the same way I once did, I still hold a soft spot in my heart for it because of how much I loved it then. To be honest, I think the ultimate aim is to have a wardrobe entirely full of pieces like that: pieces which you absolutely love at the time of purchase and continue to love for seasons to come.

today i bought… whistles gracie jumpsuit

Whistles Gracie strappy jumpsuit

Just when I thought my bank balance might have a chance to recover after fashion week, the mid-season sales start. I've been looking for a jumpsuit for as long as I can remember, but have never found one that a) isn't totally unflattering and b) manages to be both day and night appropriate. The reason I don't wear many dresses is because they limit outfit combinations; those dresses that I wear often tend to be very plain and therefore easy to dress up or down. The same goes for jumpsuits: I didn't want one that was too dressy or too casual. This Whistles beauty sits perfectly on the line between the two: easy to sling on for daytime with a slouchy jumper on top, but equally wouldn't look out of place on a night out with earrings and heels. I do love when you get more for your money (especially when it's reduced, too).

Acne Studios Beta logo sweater

Topshop black Jamie jeans

Alexander Wang Prisma lizard tote

Don't get me wrong; I'm pretty sad about the demise of summer. But it does at least mean that I get to bust out this lovely cosy sweatshirt once more. Kind of obsessed with it. (It does however mean that my photos aren't as good today thanks to the torrential rain… Sorry about that.)

Monday 6 October 2014

today i love… the monday wish list

I've been looking for the perfect camel coat for as long as I can remember. Last week I ordered an oversized one from ASOS, but oversized really is an understatement: it is absolutely huge. This one is now on its way to me but I'm not sure yet whether it might be a little too pale. I'll have to wait and see whether this is that elusive perfect coat I've been waiting for.

I've just discovered French Connection's home range and I'm a little bit obsessed. Decorating my imaginary dream home is a favourite pastime of mine and it certainly involves this amazing candle holder sitting on the windowsill.

Autumn is finally actually here, and rather than bemoan the loss of the sun and the inevitable end of bare legs season (sob), I'd prefer to concentrate on the upsides, and one of those is that ankle boot time is upon us. I do love a good ankle boot. This pair are especially taking my fancy right now, what with their perfect heel height and croc panel.

Like the perfect camel coat, the perfect roll neck can be difficult to find. I really don't like the skinny 60s style ones: not for me. But give me something oversized and with just the right amount of slouch and it's a different matter. And anything that means you don't have to lug a scarf around is always a winner with me.

You know I love a candle. I adore Jo Malone's because they are pretty much the epitome of luxury. If you've ever bought one you'll know they come in the most divine packaging (it even includes a beautiful box of matches) and smell even more heavenly. The brand's latest scent is designed to evoke a windswept shore: the air fresh with sea salt mingled with the woody earthiness of sage. In short, the perfect autumn fragrance if ever there were one.

I still haven't bought a leather backpack and yet I still can't get them out of my head. I've lingered over the purchase button on so many different ones but nothing has tempted me enough. This Reiss beauty might just be the one, though. The polished details swiftly dispatch any scruffy connotations the rucksack could hold, while the quilted panel adds interest.

today i want… whistles faux fur clutch

Whistles faux fur clutch

Faux fur is definitely having what we pretentious fashion people like to call a "moment" right now. It's everywhere and it's not even cold yet. Mark my words, as soon as the temperature drops you won't be able to move for shaggy coats and brightly coloured stoles. The thing with faux is that it really needs to be good in order not to look cheap. Take my advice and steer clear of the lower end of the high street on this one. As ever, Whistles can be relied upon to make any trend classy and this is no exception. Their Kumiko faux fur coat has been a runaway hit already. As you'll know I wore my navy version to fashion week, but it actually turned out to have a small rip in the collar so I exchanged it for a new one. This proved a difficult task, with the customer service team tracking down the last remaining size Small in the UK and shipping it to me from Glasgow (as ever they were incredibly lovely and oh so helpful). Although it is now back in stock here if you haven't snapped one up yet. In any case it is a thing of beauty and truly looks more expensive than it is. If you can't stretch to the Kumiko, though, then I suggest dipping a toe (or rather hand) into the trend with this adorable two-tone clutch. It has more than a hint of Shrimps about it (in case you didn't know, I'm referring to the faux fur specialist brand whose profile has had a meteoric rise in London fashion circles in recent months… not the seafood). It's pretty reasonably priced and what's more, you can get 25% off with Grazia until October 6th (not sure if I'm allowed to give you the code but you'll find it online no doubt). I kind of want to tuck it under my arm while wearing the Kumiko coat… Can you have too much of a good thing? Maybe more is more after all.
