today i'm wearing...

Whistles Lennox longline leather biker

Whistles black suede heels

Topshop Boutique pink cashmere mix vest

Topshop Boutique black ponyskin skirt

Ray-Ban black Wayfarers

Now that the weather's warming up (hooray), I'm trying to get as much use out of this beautiful jacket as I can before it has to be retired until autumn. I definitely hesitated before buying this, given that it was quite the investment purchase, but I can safely say it's been worth every penny and I have no doubt I'll be just as excited to wear it again next season. Sometimes it's better to spend more on something you really love, even if it does make your heart skip a beat at the time…

today i bought… topshop hula crossover sandals

topshop hula flat crossover sandals

I posted a while ago about the rise of the ugly shoe, but I wasn't sure I was entirely convinced. I love the Isabel Marant cross strap slides that are doing the rounds at the moment, but I'm definitely not looking to spend that much money on this trend and a lot of the high street lookalikes are just too ugly, sometimes with flatform-esque chunky soles which make me shudder a little (gawd, I hate a flatform). So I'm happy to say I've found the perfect compromise in these Topshop flats. The thick patent cross straps make them suitably Marant-esque and just a little ugly, but the flat sole and lack of other detail means they are not crossing the line into something that just doesn't feel like me. And the best part? They set me back a mere £20. Ugly or otherwise, that's a price not to be sniffed at.

today i'm wearing...

Topshop grey ribbed cardigan

3.1 Phillip Lim Pashli medium burgundy

Michael Michael Kors leather leggings

Zara black court shoes

ASOS navy satin cami

As a rule, I'm not a fan of cardigans. Too girly and too fussy for me. But this one caught my eye on Topshop's website the other day. It's suitably mannish, slouchy and oversized, while at the same time being deliciously soft and cosy. The perfect non-cardigan cardigan.

today i love… the monday wish list

Whistles navy leather skirt COS mesh bomber H&M satin mules

You know I can never resist anything navy, especially not when it's leather, too. This beauty is the perfect way to try out a longer length skirt because it neatly sidesteps any mumsy associations (it's leather, remember). Needs nothing more than a simple black tee and mules.

My scented candle obsession could be said to be getting a little out of hand, but I try to supplement my extravagant Diptyque purchases with a few slightly more affordable specimens (my favourite brand for this has to be Lily Flame, by the way). This, my latest candle crush, promises to ease me into a heady, lavender-scented sleep. Mmm.

The change of seasons calls for a spring clean and where better to start than your lingerie drawer? I'll be looking to this delicate peach-coloured bra to add a little colour to mine.

I'm a jewellery snob these days and will only buy gold-plated pieces, but that doesn't mean they have to break the bank. In fact, it's so much better value for your money to buy something you can wear for years on end rather than something which turns green almost immediately. This chunky ring is both beautiful and not at all badly priced.

5. H&M silk mix mules / £39.99
I know, more mules… What can I say? I like these understated H&M versions because they're a) purse-friendly, in case you're not so sure how long this trend will last, and b) navy. (Yes, again.)

My heart skipped a beat when I chanced upon this COS bomber today. It is exactly the jacket I've been searching for. White, mesh, a little sporty and a lot affordable. Get into my virtual basket rightaway, please.

today i'm wearing...

Topshop Boutique ribbed sweatshirt

Whistles suede heels

3.1 Phillip Lim Pashli medium burgundy

I wrote the other day about how I love clashing textures to add a little interest to simple looks. Well, the same goes for proportion. Nothing I love more than an oversized sweatshirt over a sleek pencil skirt. The perfect way to strike a balance between dressed up and dressed down (= workwear nirvana).

today i'm wearing...

H&M leather gilet

Zara zip ankle boots

Whistles comme ci comme ca sweatshirt

Zara blue skinny jeans3

As someone who pretty much strives towards total minimalism (my looks are never quite as "clean" as I'd like - see some of the girls whose blogs I follow if you're not sure what I mean, on my About page), I sometimes worry that there's a fine line between simple and boring. So if in doubt, I always chuck in a good dose of leather. When you don't like wearing print or colour or fussy accessories, it's really all about texture. There's nothing I love more than a monochrome look with clashing textures of mohair, leather, patent and suede. This look isn't really as slick as I'd like, but I always feel good when I step into these boots and this gilet. After all, fierce is another adjective I'm pretty sold on.

today i'm wearing...

Ray-Ban Wayfarers black

Topshop Boutique pink vest

Whistles quilted leather jacket

And Other Stories ostrich crossbody bag

Miss Selfridge patent loafers

Thought I'd break out the patent loafers for a sunny shopping trip the other day. Teamed them with my favourite new addition to my growing collection of Topshop Boutique cashmere-mix vests in candyfloss pink, thanks to my little sister who bought a size too big. This pink obsession shows no signs of waning.

today i want… whistles kristen pink cashmere knit

whistles kristen pink cashmere knit

I don't know what's come over me, but I'm kind of obsessed with pink right now. Unlike me, I know. I blame the flawless Jessie Bush of Wethepeoplestyle.com, who I had the pleasure of meeting at fashion week and who is the only person in the world to make me want pink hair - I mean, seriously, you've never seen someone look so good with pink hair. She has impeccable style, too, and will often throw a flash of candy floss pink into an otherwise slick monochrome look in a way that makes it look like the chicest colour ever (not normally how I would describe pink). It's Whistles' fault, too: they keep producing pink clothes which are so utterly the antithesis of Barbie connotations that you'd think they'd invented a new colour. Top of my pink wish list is this utterly divine sugared almond pink beauty, in a sumptuous cashmere mix, longer at the back than the front and just exactly what my wardrobe is crying out for. My debit card, on the other hand, is not exactly crying out for this dent. Grazia's 25% off offer is testing my resolve, but it ends tomorrow, so I just have to be strong until then...

today i'm wearing...

Zara blue skinny jeans

Zara black mules

And Other Stories crossbody bag

Zara black fur coat

I love when you have an item in your wardrobe that you pick up without giving much thought to and it becomes one of your most trusted staples that you reach for time and time again. So it is with this black furry coat, grabbed on a whim in the Zara sale almost two years ago, and worn countless times since. I still love wearing it every single time. That's got to be what we're looking for every time we hand over our credit cards, right? Shame that's not always the case…

H&M leather gilet

Spring is the perfect time to bust out this leather gilet. Totally impractical, of course, since it doesn't keep me at all warm, but that's where that other totally impractical practice, shoulder-robing a coat, comes in, and luckily it's just warm enough at the moment for a combination of the two.

today i'm wearing...

Whistles Lennox leather biker

ASOS navy satin cami

And Other Stories ostrich effect bag

Zara patent boots

Am experiencing a renewed love of satin at the moment, particularly in my favourite of all colours, navy, so I couldn't resist snapping up this ASOS top in their 20% off promotion a few days back. I like how the texture is a perfect contrast with leather and that it's just a little bit 90s, in a good way.

today i love… the monday wish list

Whistles Fleur logo sweat Givenchy Obsedia bag Kiehls ultra facial masque

I'm having a little bit of a love affair with sweatshirts at the moment. They're just perfect for this time of year and make any look seem suitably casual: ideal for dressing down a smart leather skirt for work or worn with lipstick and heels in the evening. This navy beauty is my current favourite. Don't forget you can get 25% off at Whistles until 18th March by buying Grazia (UK).

2. H&M glass vase / £7.99
I'm a little bit obsessed with H&M home at the moment: it's such good value and there are some absolute beauties on the website. I've just done a big order and now I kind of wish I'd got even more goodies, like this lovely little vase.

I'm branching out into skirts more and more lately, though most of mine are still leather. This one from Zara caught my eye because it's very simple and wearable, yet there's something unmistakably S/S'14 about it. Maybe it's the belt, the easy length or the hint of swish about it. Either way, it's a tempting prospect.

I'm a sucker for a good face mask (about to use my lovely mud-like Eve Lom as I write this) and this one comes recommended by Elin Kling (possessor of some very good skin). I had a little traipse around the Kiehl's store in Nottingham the other day and pretty much wanted everything, but they didn't have this so I left empty-handed. Luckily John Lewis offers free delivery to stores…

I posted recently about the rise of the ugly shoe, and these are the latest iteration of said phenomenon to catch my eye. I think it's the flash of silver that has me sold. Perfect with a simple white dress and black leather rucksack.

What can I say? Right now it's taking every ounce of willpower I possess to stop myself ordering this (obscenely expensive) bag. I'm totally, 100%, inextricably, irrevocably, unconditionally, uncontrollably in love. Sigh.

This jacket is probably best suited to evening, what with its dressy satin lapels, but I like to think it can work for daytime too, dressed down with a casual tee and some (rather awesome) mules.
