today i bought...

My main shopping resolution for 2013 was: buy less, buy better. In the past my shopping addiction has meant that I've never been able to save for things, preferring to spend little and often on the high street. However, this now means I've got four bin bags of cheap clothes I never wear and realise that it's the investment pieces that I truly, truly love and therefore wear more than any others. Case in point: my Acne Pistol boots, which have made up their cost per wear tenfold since I got them nearly a year ago and which I still absolutely adore putting on my feet each and every time I wear them. There's a subtle but important distinction to be made, though: buying an expensive designer item doesn't necessarily equal an investment buy. I'd love to be able to afford to just buy designer everything, but I can't, so for me I have to really, really love an item for months on end before taking the plunge. That's why I knew my Pistols and my Mulberry Alexa were worth every penny. The same goes for these Marant Dicker boots. The little gasp of joy I gave when I opened the box and the fact that I stabbed my hand with my scissors in my excitement probably tells you everything you need to know. I've worn my River Island lookalikes to the ground, so I thought it was time, as with the Pistols, to invest in the real deal. I love these so much that they already seem worthy of their price tag. Unfortunately after believing Net-a-porter's guide which said that due to the French sizing I should go up a size, I'm not convinced, so I've had to order the size down. This means it will probably be a few days before I can wear these beauties... But I know they're worth the wait.

today i love... vogue street chic

So I know I've already posted about British Vogue including me in their What Are You Wearing Facebook gallery, but now they've also selected my photo to appear in their Street Chic gallery for January 2013 on Vogue.co.uk (which is apparently "the best of the best" of the Facebook pictures). Needless to say I'm incredibly honoured and excited. Thank you very much Vogue!

PS, see the original outfit post for this look here.

From now on there'll be a section at the bottom of my outfit posts which makes it a little easier to shop what I'm wearing. It will show links to the actual items I'm wearing, if still available, and some similar items if not. You can tell which are the actual ones because they will also be linked in the text above, as they always have been. Let me know if you find it useful. Happy shopping!

today i'm inspired by... the fashion guitar

A little inspiration for your Monday morning courtesy of Charlotte Groeneveld, aka The Fashion Guitar. I'd stumbled across Charlotte's blog a few times in the past but it wasn't until this weekend that I took a proper look around and really realised just how much I love her style (above are a few recent favourites of mine). She's a Dutch girl living in our very own London who somehow manages to combine her career as a blogger with being a mother and still finds time to put together some seriously awesome looks (multi-tasking, much?) Her style is easy, relaxed and chic, with a focus on simple silhouettes revved up with interesting little details - a green PS11 here or some tan over-the-knee Givenchy boots there. It's the designer details that elevate her outfits from everyday to worthy of a second look. So if you aren't already a fan, then I for one highly recommend having a little peruse of her blog; if you're in need of some extra fashion inspiration today, you're sure to find it there.

today i want... zara gold wedges

Zara metallic wedges / £29.99 (reduced from £69.99)

No doubt you got bored of trawling through the sales a couple of weeks ago, but right now is the perfect time to take a second look around. Many stores (especially online) have added new stock and slashed prices further for the end of the sales, meaning there are still some fantastic bargains to be had. Yesterday, for example, I came across these gold wedges on Zara.com. I remember lusting after these Céline-esque babies many months ago now, but they didn't make it into the original Zara sale line-up and have only just been sneakily added. Admittedly I'm not 100% sure without seeing them in real life; I'm not the biggest fan of a wedge and it's only the awesome metallic colour that is persuading me to take a second look. I'll probably click them home and try them on to see if they are even remotely walkable. What do you think? Too much wedge for one shoe to handle? And have you picked up any amazing last-minute sale bargains?

What I wore to my birthday party last night. Can't believe this dress has been reduced from £175 to £30 and still all the sizes are in stock - I absolutely love it (do size down about 2 sizes if you get it, though). Got to love the sales!

PS, Guest appearance from my two lovely best friends, Kristy and Hannah!

today i love... facebook

In the past I may have been guilty of neglecting my blog's Facebook page a little, so I've decided to start paying it more attention. From now on you'll be able to see new blog posts as soon as they're posted, photos from my Instagram plus exclusive Facebook-only content such as links to looks I'm loving that day and items on my wish list.

Plus, if I hit 200 likes I'll do another giveaway on the blog. Happy liking!

today i bought...

It's safe to say I've wanted a Mulberry Alexa bag ever since its namesake starting toting it around three years ago. So when I found this beauty in classic black for a third off in Bicester Village, it was a no-brainer. Sometimes it's worth investing in a true classic that will stand the test of time, and I'm confident the Alexa will prove just that. Happy birthday to me...

today i love... vogue: what are you wearing

British Vogue run an ongoing styling competition where you can submit your outfit photos and their favourites end up in the "What Are You Wearing" Facebook gallery. Today I was lucky enough to be selected to be in their latest photo album, which needless to say I'm pretty excited about. Thanks so much Vogue!

Thought I'd give my Topshop Unique bomber a rest and dig out one of my trusty old favourite coats, this military beauty. I still remember my joy at finding it tucked away in the sale for a mere £40 several years ago, and I love it just as much now as I did then.

today i'm inspired by... hedvig opshaug

Ever since I discovered Hedvig Opshaug's blog the-northernlight.com last May I've been a huge fan of her beautifully classic, polished dress sense. Combining Scandinavian minimalism (she hails from Norway) with a little upmarket London style (where she now lives), she never fails to get it spot on. Lately she's been demonstrating the best pregnancy chic I've ever seen, too. Anyway, this latest look of hers shows off exactly that: the perfect wintry ensemble for these frosty climes. I love the monochrome coat, and the bag that's almost matching but not quite, so it expertly manages to avoid looking overdone. It's a lesson in how to dress that we can all learn something from, I think.
