Jumper from Mango; trousers from Topshop; shoes from Zara; bag from Topshop; scarf from Topshop; bracelet from H&M.

Still love this rich burgundy scarf. It adds the perfect hit of autumnal colour to any outfit. And I mustn't be alone in thinking that as it's sold out online already.

today i love... silver

I've been obsessed with metallics for a long time, but right now it seems the fashion world agrees with me. I remember this time last year scouring the high street for a silver jumper and being unable to find anything except this lurex one in the Topshop sale. Now, however, you literally can't move for silver jumpers. The same goes for silver shoes: when I couldn't get my size of the Zara ones in the sale in June, I did an online search for silver shoes and got nada. Now: everywhere. Likewise silver bags, dresses, belts, skirts, t-shirts... Bright shiny metallics are all over the place. And I for one am rather happy about that. I've been trying to put my finger on quite why I love silver so much, and I think it's because it goes with everything in the same way as neutral colours like black or white, but at the same time it's so much more exciting and eye-catching than those colours. And I'm definitely favouring silver over gold right now. So below I've chosen my favourite silver pieces from the high street. Now I'm not talking a little flash of lurex thread here: I mean shiny, in-your-face silver, preferably leather or leather-look. It definitely takes a certain confidence to wear these pieces, but why shouldn't you be confident when you know you'll look amazing? If in doubt, start with a belt or a clutch and work your way up. As far as I'm concerned you can't go wrong.

Cardigan from Kate Moss for Topshop; jeans from Topshop; loafers from Miss Selfridge; bag from Topshop; bracelet from H&M.

I usually much prefer jumpers to cardigans, but for this navy one I make an exception. It's actually the only thing I own from the Kate Moss for Topshop collections (I did have a lovely pair of white sunglasses too, but they're sadly in Portugal somewhere). I love that it's navy, super-soft and just a little bit oversized, thereby easily avoiding all of the cardigan's potential pitfalls (too tight/too mumsy/too girly).

today i want... asos neoprene skirt

Until quite recently, neoprene was nothing more to me than an odd material we sometimes used in CDT lessons at school. But then it slowly started to creep into designers' collections and very gradually began the slow but steady trickle down to the high street. I first featured a neoprene piece on my blog back in May when I fell in love with a certain neon green dress by ASOS Black. Slick, short and simple, this dress wasn't at first sight a look-at-me piece. But the figure-sculpting properties of its fabric propelled it into a whole different league. That's what intrigues me so much about neoprene, I think: it's bold and sexy but in a very modern way. By taking a fabric usually synonymous with supremely unsexy things like scuba gear and wetsuits, and fashioning a dress from it, you have all the appeal of the Hervé Léger bodycon movement but with none of the trashiness. The allure of neoprene is far less obvious and therefore far more fashionable. And it seems that in recent weeks the high street have caught onto this fact. COS was, as ever, ahead of the curve with its baby-pink scuba hoodies; Zara soon followed suit with simple boat-neck tops in black and blue. And now ASOS have got in on the act with this lovely skirt in peacock blue and grass green, with a matching jacket also available. There's something so fantastic about the idea of rocking up to the Christmas party in this, isn't there? A blue neoprene skirt suit, accessorised with slicked-back hair and a smoky eye, would be simply jaw-dropping against a sea of sequins and boring LBDs. Sadly I've already sorted my outfit for the office party, but if you've been searching for something different, then you may just have found it. Go on, I dare you...

today i love... christmas gifts

It's that time of year again. With December just around the corner (!), we can't put off thinking about Christmas gifts for much longer. But while it can seem a daunting prospect, with a little thought and good use of the internet, Christmas shopping can actually be relatively pain-free. I myself like to spend a little time brainstorming ideas for each person I'm buying for (I do love a good list) before hitting the web and trying to tick off most of my purchases online. Only then will I actually leave the house for some in-store shopping to tie up the loose ends and buy wrapping paper and cards. So, with this in mind, I've been scouring the net to find the best Christmas gifts for the fashionably-inclined. When I say that, I basically mean that this is everything I'd love to find under my tree (to my friends and family: hint, hint...) I myself get annoyed when I see a Christmas gift special in a magazine and most of the items are upwards of £50 or £100. So these ideas are instead geared towards those of us who don't have quite that much to spend: you won't find anything above £35 (it was going to be £30, but I just had to include the Stella perfume). And of course everything here is available online, so all you need to do is sit back on your sofa with a cup of tea and click away. Job done.

Leather gilet from H&M; jumper from Topshop; trousers from Topshop; boots from Topshop.

I'm not big on colour blocking; if I'm wearing a colour I'll usually pair it with black, white or grey. But I'm quite liking navy with red at the moment. I think it's just about subtle enough for me.

today i want... nowhere peek shoes

I've written about Swedish brand Nowhere before (see the post here). The capsule collection is the brainchild of Swedish fashion star Elin Kling and is pretty much indicative of how I'd like my wardrobe to look. The contrast-sleeve jumper I bought from there is fast turning out to be one of my favourite cosy winter pieces, and I'm kicking myself I didn't invest in the grey zip-detail trousers before they sold out. Up until now it's just been clothes, but today the long-awaited shoe collection landed on Nelly.com, the brand's only vendor. Now I've loved the below shoe style, the black Peek shoes, ever since I saw the first pictures of Nowhere on Elin's blog. So today I find myself facing something of a dilemma. On the one hand: they are beautiful, I love them a lot, and Nelly offers free delivery on orders over €75 (and they were astoundingly efficient at delivering my jumper, I must say). On the other hand: they aren't real leather, they aren't cheap, and I am right in between two shoe sizes. This means if I only order one size, there's a very high chance they won't fit, but if I order two, I'll have to pay to return one of them. Oh the dilemma... Well, if you have fewer problems buying shoes than I do, then I urge you to invest in these. One thing's for sure, they won't hang around long. In the meantime I've got a decision to make...

Nowhere Peek shoes, €83.95 (approx. £72)

today i bought...

Shopping in Manchester was quite an exercise in self-restraint. I came across literally everything I've wanted in the last few months, particularly a to-die-for Topshop coat in blue wool with black leather sleeves. But with a price of £170, I had to tear myself away from it (with great difficulty) and hope it's reduced in the January sales. I also resisted some ridiculously amazing Zara snakeskin boots (not exactly a snip at £90). In their place, however, I treated myself to this equally lovely serpentine shirt (for £29.99). I'd had my eye on it for some time, ever since I featured it in 8th October's "today I'd love to wear", but unfortunately my size had sold out online before I got around to ordering it. You will no doubt know how obsessed I am with snake print, so there's no doubt I'll be getting my money's worth from this beautiful classic shirt.

My only other purchase (pretty impressed with my self-control) was this pair of simple bracelets from H&M, for £7.99. I love the minimalist design, with just the unusual fastening adding a little bit of interest. They'll be the perfect subtle finishing touch to almost any outfit.

Sorry for the bad pictures; only had my rubbish camera with me and didn't get a chance to take many photos of my weekend in Manchester. Had to share these shots of the Christmas markets though - they were amazing! I definitely recommend you head there for some roasted chestnuts and mulled wine if you live nearby.

today i want... cambridge satchel company metallic satchels

It's fair to say the Cambridge Satchel Company owes quite a lot to Alexa Chung. Ever since she brought the humble satchel firmly back into vogue a few seasons ago with her eponymous Mulberry bag, they've been well and truly capitalising on it. I've lost count of the number of different versions of their classic satchel I've seen since then - all colours of the rainbow (including neons over the summer), a number of different finishes and of course a bevy of sizes. Well, you've got to hand it to them, it seems to be working. The fact that they continue to churn out new manifestations months after satchels faded from the fashion front line suggests they're selling well. Their latest offering is these metallic beauties, sold exclusively at ASOS. Regular readers will know I am powerless before all things metallic, especially metallic leather, so these bags are right up my street. Simple, structured and timeless, these bags will add interest and edge to any outfit, while at the same time still being quite neutral and elegant. The only issue is which one to choose...

Winter is slowly creeping up on us (no more open-toed shoes without socks for me) and in my book that calls for a lovely new scarf. Thick, cosy, cable-knitted and a deliciously rich shade of burgundy, this Topshop scarf is neckwear perfection. And not at all bad for £16. I featured it in 12th November's "today I'd love to wear", and I think teaming it with a cream knit and a flash of silver is just the way to go.
