Sleeveless trench from Primark; t-shirt/dress from H&M; trousers from Topshop; shoes from Zara; bag from Miss Selfridge; belt from H&M; bracelet from ASOS; sunglasses from Ray-Ban.

These leopard shoes were the best Christmas present ever. I still can't get enough of them eight months later.

Leather jacket from Topshop; shirt from H&M; trousers from M&S; shoes from Next; bracelet is DIY; watch from ASOS; sunglasses from Ray-Ban.

Was going to wear my new black & white skirt from Zara today, but at the last minute I had my doubts about it. I'm worried it's too tight around the waist, despite being quite loose-fitted elsewhere (I find Zara's sizing can be very strange) and also that, given that it would look silly with black tights, I'll only be able to wear it a couple of times before it gets too cold. Hmm, can't make my mind up. Shame, as it really would have looked great with this shirt.

(yesterday)

Jumper from Zara; jeans from Topshop; boots from Topshop; bag from Zara; claw bracelet from ASOS; chain bracelet from ASOS; sunglasses from Ray-Ban.

Sorry for the blurry photo; for some reason my camera was struggling yesterday. Anyway, I really love this super-cosy knit. Thought I'd toughen it up with lots of black, zip boots, a dash of leopard print and of course my beloved Ray-Bans.

today i bought...

Don't you just love when you find exactly what you're looking for? I really quite wanted a navy shirt, and thought maybe H&M might be a good place to look. And what did I see when I walked into the store? This absolutely perfect navy shirt - for a mere £7.99. Nice.

I don't wear skirts all that often - for some reason I prefer shorts - but when I do, they are nearly always short. I definitely haven't worn a pencil skirt for years, if ever, so this is a bit of a fashion gamble for me. Somehow they feel a little too smart, a little too "obvious workwear". But there's something about this Zara monochrome beauty that I love, and at £25.99, I thought it was worth taking the risk. Hopefully it will pay off.

Another unusual purchase for me - something pink. I haven't worn pink since I was about sixteen, having been previously unable to get the connotations of girly-girliness, Katie Price and chavvy New Look hoodies out of my mind. But something about this amazing Zara knit, £35.99, caught my eye a few weeks ago, and although I was initially sceptical, when I saw Columbine Smille looking divine in it (see it here), I knew I had to order it and see. And I was pleasantly surprised to find it's an incredibly vivid neon (brighter than it looks here), banishing all potentially cutesy pitfalls. I decided that against all odds I really rather liked it, and in fact it proved the perfect cosy travelling attire this weekend. Outfit post to come tomorrow!

Dress (with belt) from Zara; shoes from New Look; clutch from ASOS; necklace from Topshop.

Sorry for the lack of posts; I've been at my beautiful friend's wedding in Durham without internet. She's the first one of my peers to get married so quite an emotional but fantastic weekend. I'd wanted this amazing snake-print dress for so long so I was delighted to have an occasion to wear it. And what better occasion than such a happy celebration?

today i love... topshop black ambush boots

The much lusted-after black Ambush boots from Topshop have come back in stock online this morning. They won't hang around for long so if you want them, I suggest you snap them up quick sharp! They run fairly true to size, maybe a little on the small side, and are fantastic quality and super versatile so I'd definitely recommend them (see me wearing mine here).

today i bought...

I've borrowed my sister's lovely denim shirt from Topshop a couple of times recently (see me in it here), and really quite wanted it for myself. Unfortunately the website had sold out of her shirt, so I ordered a similar one... but the one I actually wanted arrived instead! So instead of delivering what I ordered, they delivered what I wanted. Topshop must be able to read my mind. Maybe they know what a good customer I am... as the delivery man said, "I thought you must have moved house, I haven't been here in a whole two weeks!" Oops...

I also picked up this lovely black t-shirt/dress from H&M a few days ago (see me wearing it here). It's perfectly sheer and brilliantly oversized; it's too see-through to wear as a dress, except maybe at the beach, but tucked in it doubles as a nice basic tee. Not bad for £7.99.

Really quite liking my new Ralph Lauren sunglasses; they make me look a little bit like an alien, but I'm OK with that. Tonight I'm off to the cinema to see Harry Potter again, this time in 3D, so I'll be trading these shades for some slightly less fashionable ones soon!

Given that my feet are still recovering after being ruined by my new silver shoes last week, I decided to go for some nice comfy heels today. I don't wear these shoes all that often because they sometimes feel a little too polished for me, but I think teaming them with ripped jeans definitely helps.

today i love... basics

4. Knitwear

Time for another basics post (to see them all, click on the tag "today I love basics" below). Next up: knitwear. One of the most practical, comfortable and hard-working wardrobe essentials, it's at this time of year that knitwear begins to take over the high street. With autumn just around the corner and temperatures falling, what could be a more comforting welcome into colder climes than a soft, snuggly knit? Now I'm not talking about flimsy cardigans or paper-thin sweaters here. I'm talking big, luxurious, soft-as-a-blanket knitwear. Jumpers so huge they could swallow you up; granddad cardigans with mottled buttons and worn leather elbow patches. That's what autumn is all about for me, to be honest: being cosy. And I do love when fashion and function meet so perfectly.

To be honest, you can't go too wrong with knitwear, so I don't think you'll need any tips from me. All I would say is: firstly, make sure you try your jumper on over bare skin before committing to it, because scratchy fibres are not a good plan; secondly, oversized is always better than undersized when it comes to knits; thirdly, stock up on some classic, timeless pieces like cable and angora knits in grey, cream and navy, but don't be afraid to indulge in some seasonal trends, too: bright colours, animal motifs and metallics are all big news right now. And you won't have any problem finding your perfect cover-up, because chunky knits are absolutely everywhere at the moment, so much so that I had trouble narrowing it down to my top nine (below). But I will say Zara's brilliant selection is a great place to start. As for jumpers vs cardigans, personally I much prefer a good chunky jumper, as cardigans have a lot more pitfalls (too mumsy/too fussy/unflattering), which is why I've only chosen one cardigan in my high street picks. But of course it's up to you. Now, can you guess which one of the lovely knits below is currently making its way towards me...?

Finally enough sunshine to justify non-stop wearing of my Ray-Bans. I'm loving a jumper paired with shorts and boots in this tail-end of summer weather; you can still get your legs out but you also have the snuggly knit for when it cools down come evening. Perfect.

today i'm inspired by... topshop boutique a/w'11

I've always loved Topshop Boutique. It's the home of Topshop's most classic, timelessly chic pieces, designed to form the cornerstone of your wardrobe and be worn season after season. From luxe cashmere-mix basics to boyfriend knits, through butter-soft leather jackets and statement printed dresses, it's the home of Topshop's most fashion-forward but perennially stylish designs (shop the collection here). My Boutique cashmere-mix vests are my go-to slouchy basics, my new angora jumper has become one of my favourites, and frankly I'd buy the whole collection if I could afford it. So needless to say I was super excited to come across these stunning shots advertising Topshop Boutique for A/W'11. I love the way they're shot, showing only teasing glimpses of the clothes; I also love the contrasts between soft tactile knits, bold prints and chunky footwear. Let's just say if these pictures are anything to go by, my bank balance might be in trouble this autumn...

Man, my new Zara shoes have absolutely murdered my feet today. I really hope they get more comfortable after a few wears because they are so incredibly beautiful. At least the sun finally came out so I could wear my Ray-Bans. Definitely helped take my mind off the pain.

I featured these Zara shoes in a "today I want" post last week and now I've finally got my hands on them. Aren't they beautiful? I'm so pleased to finally have some lovely silver shoes. They will look perfect with everything and anything and I can't wait to wear them.

I wasn't entirely sure about these white heels at first; the dreaded Essex connotations were haunting me a bit. But the more I wear them the more I like them. Especially since they look rather like some from CĂ©line's Resort collection. (And yes, I'm wearing sunglasses in the dark and rain... otherwise I'd never get to wear them at all!)
