I had never really owned any statement bags until recently. Most of them were black or tan, sensibly sized and fit for purpose: very nice-looking but ultimately very functional. But since investing in my bright turquoise laptop case from ASOS and my huge flashy silver H&M Fashion Against Aids clutch I've begun to understand the appeal of a bag that is not just something you carry your stuff in, but rather the focus of your whole outfit. Of course in the evenings we're used to toting decorative bags that can barely carry a lipstick, but during the day many of us tend towards something more practical than beautiful. And while women will quite often build an outfit around a pair of statement shoes, not many do the same for bags. If, however, you were parading your things around in one of these stunning Harlem bags from ASOS White, it would surely be hard to treat it like just any other holdall.
